It was great being a part of this set.

Macho Man Tea Kettle

A couple years back when my friends and I were sitting around trying to think up weird and wacky ideas for products we could make mock commercials for, we came up with the ‘Macho Man tea kettle’. It’s only difference from being a regular kettle was that it would sound like Randy saying ‘OH YEAH’ as it released steam.
This concept set on the back burner until a couple weeks ago when Randy died. I decided to make a tribute sketch. I wanted to stay away from the commercial type of skit, so I did this instead.

Starring : Casey V., Karalee Tilley and Myself

Filming again

Tonight Casey and I are shooting our first skit in a very, very long time. We are super excited! I borrow my buddies Nikon D7000 and will be capturing audio to my camera. The concept for this skit began brewing several years ago but we didn’t really know what to do with it. But now we’re getting it going and it’s going to be RAD. We will be working with a lady named Karalee for the first time. She is very funny and has a lot of enthusiasm. Due to our low budget and general lack of time I decided that we are going to put up a bunch of green paper all over the walls that I will key out and replace with the images that I want. I’ve done green screen work in the past with a fair amount of success and feel that my skills are stronger now. This is going to be fun and hopefully will get the ball rolling for more skits to come. OH YEAH!

P.S. I fully realize that I failed on the whole illustrations a day thing. I got busy and sick and then busy again. I’m going to get back on it but I’m not going to confine myself to a timeline. :)

Blah!

For the last week and a half or so I’ve been varying degrees of ill. Mostly it’s been congestion and a cough, but has turned into a more bronchial cough and a large amount of exhaustion. This of course has made it difficult for me to work out and has made me uninterested in doing much of anything. Today I feel quite a bit better, but I still have a little chest pressure and the occasional cough. I really do hope that this all passes soon as I really want to get back to feeling normal and kicking ass again.
New illustrations will come soon. Also, some video projects are soon to be in the works again.
This weekend I’ll be in Washington once again to do some more wedding detail as the date is quickly nearing, but upon my return I plan to spend much more time being productive. The weather is nicer, I don’t feel a chill in my home anymore and I’m seriously itching to get back to a regular workout routine. once I’m back on track and feeling good about myself again I will feel more inclined to get projects done. That’s just how I work.

Here is The Sex Bots music video, ‘Come on Daddy’, directed and edited by Ilima Considine. I was the DP on this shoot with secondary camera and lighting assistance from Jeff Scott Taylor. Don’t worry boys and girls, it’s not as bad as it sounds. It alludes to things but doesn’t actually show anything.

Joke

Towards the end of filming for Keith Apland’sThe Corners‘ I was approached by Seth Allen, who played Frome, about helping to shoot a short film he’d written. I told him to send me the script and and we’d go from there. I found his script to be interesting and very odd. I knew that there was no budget for this, but after taking a trip to Keiser, OR to meet with him, his wife and his brother who’d play the lead I decided to be involved. I could tell that Seth was really into what he’d created and was extremely interested to see it come to life. That is one of the things that I really love about making films. To see things that I’ve visualized become reality or to help others to do the same. Seth and I became pretty good friends during the making of this film and I thank him for the experience and hospitality.

The film was premiered at the Salem film festival and paired with ‘The Corners’ by an interesting twist of fate. Even though I’d spent a good amount of time editing the film and scrutinizing it, it wasn’t until I saw it on the big screen that I realized it wasn’t how I personally wanted it. There were sound issues, some which I couldn’t do anything about, some that I had to fix. Plus, I did some more color correction and got to key in the look of some of the scenes making them more cinematic. Mostly nobody but myself would’ve noticed the things I altered, but I was the one staring at the screen for hours on end. Anyhow… here is the final version. Enjoy!

Batizado 2011

Just finished with my first Batizado, where I was baptized into Capoeira and got my first chord. It was so much work and probably the most fun I’ve had in a really long time. I did moves I’ve never been able to do before because the energy was right.

The whole thing sort of started last week with special guest teachers. This week was nuts because we had class on Monday night as per usual; but then Wed, Thurs, Friday and today where all high intensity training sessions with Mestres and Contra Mestres. These sessions are no joke. You get worked to the core. After Thursday night I assumed that I was going to be pulp, but I managed to stay well maintained by drinking a lot of fresh juice and protein shakes before going to bed. I feel great now. I know I’ve been eating well and I’ve been getting an insane amount of exercise and I feel like a statue. My muscles currently feel so incredibly tight. I feel like after a couples days rest I will be able to go back to class and attack it with a vigor that I didn’t have last week.

I got hit with a Bençao by one of the Masters today in the Roda that was great! It was the first time that I’ve been tagged by a perfectly executed move. I took the move like a champ and went right back in. Much better than yesterday when I got caught in the head by an armada and literally saw stars for a split second. However after taking that bonk to the noggin I centered myself and resumed the game.

Here is a short video of me playing. It’s really funny how lanky I am.

The full video of the event will be put together and placed somewhere online along with some other videos I’ve shot of previous Capoeira events sometime in the near future.

The Flatulent Robot

A long time ago I came up with this idea to make a quick cartoon entitled ‘The Flatulent Robot’. The concept was simply that a mad scientist created a robot from spare metal scraps and streets signs,  with the sole purpose of farting and laughing about it. During a road trip my sister named the robot Exit 80, as we had just passed that sign. Continuing story lines would involve the scientist having to reprogram the robot to do basic tasks. The task would fail in some aspect and the robot would fart and then laugh. It was funny to me back in the day and I even made a quick theme song for it. I never got this made because I got very frustrated in the learning process for animated in Adobe Flash. Perhaps some day.

Drawing #4

I did not have any time today to do a sketch, with work and Capoeira and eating in between. I had roughly an hour of relaxation time today. That’s nuts! and it’s how it’s going to be for the next couple days. Sunday will be a very welcomed day off, that’s for sure. Anyway, rather than sharing a sketch, here are some character face designs that I did for a comic strip I started with my buddy Dan a while back. I need to draw the first comic that he wrote. I’ll put it on the list to do this month for sketches. Who knows, perhaps it will become a thing we do. Maybe. Anyhow… here are the characters. I drew them in Adobe Flash. I think they’re pretty good actually. They look a tad different from my usual style.

Mama Bean Concepts

A colleague of mine told me about a venture she wants to do. After hearing the name and concept, I said I wanted to give a go at sketching up a possible logo or character design. These are some rough preliminaries, they are supposed to be beans. As in green beans. I was going for a sweet old woman’s face, it still needs a lot of work. I will more than likely do further work on this to refine it and give her something she can use.

The next couple of days are going to be very busy for me, so… I will get the drawings sketched and uploaded as soon as I have a chance.

  • Paul Anderson

Loving what you do is the ultimate goal in life and when I get a project that I can really bite my teeth into, I feel like I'm going in the right direction.

Art is a vast monster and I've never been able to set my focus on one particular avenue, so I dabble in many different fields. My current favorites are video manipulate with After Effects and manipulation of photographs via Photoshop and After Effects.
